Truly a new beginning at Creative Clay’s first ArtWalk

Truly a new beginning at Creative Clay’s first ArtWalk

Fresh off a mid-June move into new Headquarters in St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District, Creative Clay, welcomed more than 150 visitors July 8 to its gallery and classrooms for Second Saturday ArtWalk. ArtWalk is hosted monthly on the second Saturday from 5-9 p.m. by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and invites visitors to galleries and art venues throughout the city’s five arts districts: the Waterfront Arts District, Central Arts District, EDGE District, Grand Central District and the Warehouse Arts District.

Visitors to Creative Clay’s new space arrived promptly at 5 p.m. when the doors opened, excited to see new, larger classrooms, talk with staff and artists and give congratulations on the move, which is the next step in realizing the non-profit’s vision of making the arts accessible to all.

Long-time friends of Creative Clay, artists from the community and new patrons remarked on the quality of the classrooms, which are now larger and more conducive to art-making, and enjoyed listening to music from guest performers Chant the Trees in the new, comfortable music room.

The first ArtWalk at Creative Clay’s new headquarters was also a perfect opportunity for CEO Kim Dohrman and staff to discuss their vision for making the new space even more accommodating and inviting for all. These include improvements to the classrooms, incorporating a thrift store, gallery lighting and a professional art-hanging system. To accomplish these goals, Creative Clay continues its Capital Campaign: The 2017 Project.

Donations to Creative Clay’s capital campaign will allow for increased quality programming, improved execution of services and an enhanced creative space that meets the needs of its artists. Goals for “The 2017 Project” include: ● Achieve a 100% matching challenge to an anonymous $50,000.00 donation. ● Raise another $50,000 for completion of build out, renovations and moving costs. ● Increase the number of individuals the non-profit can serve as a result of gaining more physical space. ● Allow for more programming to occur under one roof vs. renting space at an off-site location to accommodate classes of artists. ● Allow for its “Around the World” Summer Camp to be held on-site vs. an alternative location, and in an area specially designed for young campers, with dedicated lunch space and outdoor play area. ● Individual work spaces for each artist.

“Our first ArtWalk in the new space was amazing,” Creative Clay’s CEO Kim Dohrman said. “We are all grateful at the outpouring of support from the community and invite everyone to stop by anytime during our hours to explore!”
