Friday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m.: Silver Bells Holiday Fundraiser at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, 11 Central Ave. Maestro Sforzini, a 15-member orchestra and eight of our phenomenal singers entertain for the St. Petersburg Opera Guild’s annual fundraising luncheon, with holiday favorites (from “O Holy Night” and “Santa Baby” to “We Need a Little Christmas” and “The Night They Invented Champagne”) alongside some of the most beautiful and inspiring music ever composed for voice (including “Ave Maria,” “Tonight We Love” and “Vilia,” from Lehar’s The Merry Widow).
Proceeds from Silver Bells go towards music scholarships for High School and College/Young Professionals in the state of Florida at annual vocal competitions, as well as helping to support the St. Petersburg Opera Company’s educational outreach programs to schoolchildren. This season’s new program includes excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, a tribute to seasonal pop songs and classic hits, “Vilia” from The Merry Widow, Dvorak’s “Song to the Moon,” a Hanukkah Medley and a unique setting of “The 12 Days of Christmas.” With Susan Hellman Spatafora, soprano; Rimas Karnavicius, baritone; Jackson Orchard, featured soloist.

Monday, Dec. 31 at 7 and 9 p.m.: St. Pete Opera at First Night at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, 140 1st Street N. Ring in the New Year with Maestro Sforzini and exemplary St. Pete Opera vocalists, with music by Puccini, Verdi and Mozart, as part of the annual city-wide First Night celebrations. At 8 and 10 p.m., Maestro conducts a program of chamber music featuring players from the Tampa Bay Symphony and the Florida Orchestra.
